Hytrans system
PHILOSOPHY.
The basic
concept of the Hytrans system product revolves around using a
hydraulic pumping system mounted in a base unit, which
powers a hydraulic driven water pump. The advantage of a
hydraulic pump is does not suffer the lift/draft
disadvantages of a centrifugal pump. A conventional
centrifugal pump will create an area of negative
pressure when being used a s a water pump. This negative
pressure area is utilized to draw water to the pump.
However, the negative pressure created is a by-product
of the real objective of raising the pressure of the
water, as such it is very limited and inefficient. First
the ability of a fire truck pump to lift water is
restricted to a maximum of 3.5 metres. The practice of
drawing water also requires energy and this affects the
efficiency of the pump to carry out its designed task of
raising pressure of the delivered water.
Hytrans system
products take very different and unique technology to
lift the water to the pump. First the pump is located at
water height, driven by a hydraulic pump, which is
mounted in the base unit above the water. Therefore, the
hydraulic pump is not lifting water but pressurizing the
water at source. The pump is also floating on the water
surface and uses only clean water from the top of the
source, not the dirty bottom water as with a suction
lift pump.
The Hytrans system
system can be used at pump lift heights up to 60 meters,
as compared to the fire trucks 3.5 metres. This, in
practical terms, means that almost any
water source is available to the fire services ¨C river,
lake, sea, reservoir or hydrant system, even swimming
pools. The fire service is no longer restricted to
sources of water that are within 3.5 meters height of
the fire truck pump.

Hytrans system
equipment can provide a further advantage as it can be
used over very long distances. The Twin-Combie can
deliver 22,000 litres of water at 12 bar. If Large
Diametre Hose (LDH) is used the Twin-Combie can deliver
vast amounts of water at usable pressures over many many
kilometers and the whole system is mobile and flexible.
The Hytrans system
consists of various sizes of pumping units, hose
pick-up and lay-down system, hose and hose containers,
delivery equipment (water monitors, water purification
equipment etc.) and ancillary equipment such as fittings
and hose ramps. All in all the Hytrans system is a
complete system that caters for the clients every need.
The client does not have to match hose to pumps or pumps
to vehicle engine power, the Hytrans system is
stand-alone and highly efficient, making optimum use of
available vehicles through the Hytrans system ¡®drop-arm¡¯
demountable system.
HYTRANS
FIRE SYSTEM,
MOBILE
SUPER WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM
System
description
AN
INNOVATIVE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR FIRE BRIGADES, CIVIL
DEFENSE AND THE PETRO-CHEMICAL
INDUSTRY.
v
MOBILE
LARGE SCALE WATER SUPPLY
v
EXTREME
LONG DISTANCES
v
UNBELIEVABLE ACCESS TO ANY OPEN WATER
v
LARGE
CAPACITY
At larger
fires in whatever circumstance or at any other fluid
transport problem such as for instance floods, it is
always necessary to be able to pump from open sources,
rivers, lakes, harbours or open sea. However, the access
to the water is most of the time quite impossible for
standard suction pumps. Hytrans system B.V. from The
Netherlands, has managed very successfully to develop a
system to overcome this problem, called the Hytrans Fire
System.
This HFS
water supply system also proves to be a very effective
system in the petro-chemical industry, providing
efficient water supply as main source or as emergency
back up.
The system
consists of three major segments.
A very
innovative hydraulic driven submersible pump, allowing
quick access to any open water source.
An unique
hose laying operation, deploying hose at high speed,
featuring hose retrieval with a very clever automatic
hose recovery system in only little time with very
limited labour input.
The whole
system deployed at lowest possible cost because it can
be containerized and is very low labour intensive.
¡¡
THE PUMP
UNIT. (HydroSub)
The HydroSub pump consists of a Diesel-Hydraulic Power
pack, powering a portable floating submersed pump. The
uniqueness of this pump is the relative high capacity of
up to 4500 ltrs/min. for the standard HydroSub and
even
up to 22000 ltr./min. for the larger model, despite the
beneficiary characteristics such as portable, floating
submersed etc.. The submersible floating pump is linked
to the power pack by means of 60 meter long hydraulic
hoses, allowing access to any open water at 60 meter
distance from the
power pack either horizontal or
vertical.
Not like a standard fire truck or fire draft pump that
has to stand very close to the water.
!!!!! N O D R A F T P R O B L E M A N Y M
O R E !!!!!
The most unique feature of the HYDROSUB is, that it
is developed with a LOW WEIGHT PORTABLE pump, but still
supplying LARGE CAPACITIES.
Additionally the pump features the capability to pump
salt water, chemical polluted water, mud, dirt, operate
from shallow water with no risk of pump failure due to
cavitation.
The fact that the pump is especially designed for a long
distance relay system, with an extreme FLAT CURVE,
contributes also strongly to the success of the system.

LARGE
DIAMETER HOSE AND HOSE HANDLING.
To really cover large distances water supply, large
diameter hose must be used in order to limit friction
loss. The big problem up till now has been the extreme
labour intensive job to handle heavy hose. Slow
unloading from trucks and a day¡¯s job for a six man team
to clear the roads of for instance 1000 meter hose used
to be normal. That really limits realistic use.
HFS solves that problem. With the standard 152-mm
(6-inch) system, hose can be relayed at a speed of up to
40 Km/hr., not needing manpower assistance. Recovering
is done with a smart newly developed device called a
Hose Recovery Unit. This HRU is capable to recover 1000
meter hose with only three persons at low labour input
in only thirty minutes. It consists of a hydraulic
powered double rollers with double pressure rollers,
opening automatically electronic controlled to allow the
couplings to pass trough.
That means that the hose does not have to be uncoupled
and no manually lifting is involved anymore. Very
compact sized it can be build into any existing hose
layer against limited costs. The HFS system is further
developed to even handle in the same way larger diameter
hoses up to to 300-mm.
COST
EFFICIENCY. The whole package can be supplied in a
containerized
version, with: the basic Hydrosub pump, 1000 mtr hose (alternative 3000 mtr hose), hose recovery unit, water supply hardware and tools,
all neatly packed in just one standard sized container. All this can be handled by only one truck chassis,
saving out on at least one other truck.
The cost
efficiency becomes even greater because it is proven to
be feasible to deploy five containers with only one
truck chassis.
Other containers could be, more water supply packages or
containers for other tasks such as, containers for
hazmat, rescue,
chemical and oil spills, command etc. Also cost
efficient is the fact that the whole system can be
deployed over a distance of
up to 4000 meters by only three to four persons.
With
conventional equipment a huge quantity of equipment and
people would have to be used, which in turn would give
uncontrollable communicational and logistic problems.
Since there
is no suction, no draft problem, it takes only a couple
of minutes to get the system in operation.
Very easy
to operate requiring minimal attention when running, it
can be used over long period of time, which is a must at
large scale
disaster type fires.
Special
provisions allow multi functional handling not only in
containers but also on a trailer, helicopter, crane,
forklift
etc.
CAPACATIES.
For example (Standard basic HydroSub unit):
¡¤ 2500 ltr/min over 4000 meter,
¡¤ 4000 ltr/min over 1500 meter,
¡¤ 2500 ltr/min over 1500 meter and still supplying 8 bar
at the end of the hose enabling to connect to ground
monitors fighting fires direct without the use of boost
pumps or fire trucks.
Larger pump units, still fully mobile containerized, are
now available in the HFS range up to 22000 ltr./min.,
and also smaller units (1000 ltr/min. have been
developed.
¡¡
THE HYTRANS
FIRE SYSTEM HAS ALREADY FOUND ITS WAY ALL OVER THE
WORLD. BECAUSE:
ALL OVER THE WORLD THE PROBLEM IS, THE WATER SUPPLY.
200 units in fire brigades all over Holland, many of
which in the Europoort oil and chemical industry
district of Rotterdam.
To name some others.
The oil harbour district of Le Havre France, The
chemical Industry of Rouen France, fire & rescue
departments in the UK, for instance the Shropshire fire
service, Neste Oil Co. Finland, Rasa (Exxon) refineries
in El Salvador, Pemex oil industry Mexico.
Also the Dutch natural gas company NAM has chosen to
build their blow-out risk control around several of
these units. Several units have been delivered to Japan.
The civil defence organisation of Switzerland has
decided on large scale for the system. In the district
if Izmir Turkey several units are operational.
Further deliveries have been made to: the civil defence
of Abu Dhabi, the fire service-civil defence
organisations of Singapore and Thailand, oil industries
in Sweden, several fire brigades and industries in
Germany and also in Belgium, etc. etc
